The Role of the healer

The story of Deep Field Relaxation (DFR).

What a surprise it is when you first realize that no-one knows why you are sick, no-one can tell how you got sick and no-one can honestly tell you how to get well! For example a homoeopath might suggest taking a remedy, a doctor would offer drugs, a new age therapist might suggest anything from past-life therapy to herbs or a karmic boost.

In truth any problem is far too complex for any human mind to fathom. On the other hand the cosmos has got it ALL sorted out. Every single molecule, every cell desires to move towards harmony. That is to say, towards health.

How do we know that? Because the universe could not have kept going, age after age unless the whole thing was founded in harmonic resonance. Even your illness could not exist unless it was operating within the laws of appropriateness. This will always be true.

And so it isn’t important whether your mind, and the mind of the therapist can figure it out. What is needed is the courage to say honestly that we don’t know what is wrong and the old idea of applying a favorite method may in fact do little more than satisfy the practitioner’s ego.

Science loves to offer answers. But how many times do you get real answers? I think, infrequently. By relying too much on peer group agreement, the use of the method is not, and never can be, specifically tailored to each and every individual need. Carl Jung believed we are the inheritors of all our ancestor’s decisions. Who could claim to interpret all that information and make it work uniquely for each of us?

As alternative practices proliferate, we are beginning to see that there is deeper truth to be found in discovering our inabilities and drawing from the great power of stepping aside and allowing universal mind to come in and take over. This is the central point of Deep Field relaxation.

The honest healer admits We Don’t Know and, instead of pretending channeling energy, or indulging in rituals or repeating the professor’s teachings, just let it all go. The greatest benefit arises from detachment from the desire for results.

Deep Field Relaxation (DFR)  can be activated by refraining from the idea that involvement is needed.

All we need to do is provide the venue or place and then facilitate only the deepest relaxation for both patient and practitioner together. The biggest difficulty is the mind’s gossipy interference. Trying to ‘empty’ the mind, as many meditation teachers try to instruct us, in fact just causes conflict since the mind is not meant to be 'quiet'. It is determined to be alert in case it is called on urgently. In contrast once we allow the wandering mind to casually drift onto anything except the problem at hand, the mind feels secure and the cosmos comes into play. In that easy, undemanding state the dominant tendency is towards harmony and then any appropriate changes are free to arise.

Why do we so often read in folk tales that it is the simpleton who saves the village? This is because, as Gurdjeff said, "the educated man is not wise and the wise man is not educated". Indulging in fancy mind games and academic straight-jackets do nothing to loosen the mind, serving mainly to entrench the ego-driven illusions. On the other hand experienced healers have no need to prove their ability, since they know already that the power of the universe has it all under control. Plants, animals, humans all exist within laws of continuity and reproduction. You think God is going to let us all get so off the beam that no more people will be created? That is the first impossibility.

The foundation of Deep Field Relaxation (DFR)  is to allow yourself to be of service to others and then relax in the comfort of Not Knowing whilst doing the best that you can. So many of us have heard of God yet almost none of us ever have enough faith that all will be well. This is because faith by itself is like a glorious tree with no roots. Only by accessing the power of suffering can you gain the personal experience which allows you to transfer faith into practical usefulness. Then and only then can you couple together your desire for loving kindness with skilful action not contaminated by desire for predetermined results.
